A Visit from an Artist

Last week, we had a very special visit from fiber artist LaVerne Kemp.  Her work has been in the WT Art Gallery at the City Campus for the past two months, and she brought her work from that show to share with our students. Following a short presentation about her work with textiles, LaVerne released the children to enjoy a scavenger hunt.  Armed with photos depicting small bits of each piece, they set out on an exhibit-wide search-and-find puzzle.  After finding parts of the works, the children could write down the corresponding art piece’s number.  The most exciting part of this exhibit was the invitation to touch the art.  LaVerne carefully taught them to use one finger to carefully explore the textures and shapes.
