Puppy Graphs

We’re using lots of mathematical knowledge to graph quantities in our Math Center.  With our newly added cat and dog counters, we sorted and recorded the different varieties of animals.  Each child had to identify the varying characteristics of each figure and then place them in groups that went together.  These groups had to be organized in such a fashion that counting was mistake free.  The children discovered that if they put one animal in each box on our graph, they could easily keep track of the number in a set.  They also had to use their memory to help them as they removed animals to color in the corresponding number of blocks.  This was one of the biggest challenges as well as remembering to start coloring from the bottom and work upward.
