Martisor with Love from Romania

You might notice when our young ladies return home this evening that they are adorned with a new bauble.  Our ever thoughtful Romanian family brought in cards brandishing Martisor for all of the PK teachers and girl students today.  Martisor is a Romanian celebration of the first day of March and the beginning of Spring.  Traditionally a small charm attached to red and white string are given by men to women and children to teachers to symbolize love, hope, and friendship.  Women may wear these charms for many days following March 1st.

If you are interested in learning more about Martisor, consider this lifestyle piece at or the collectively edited article on Wikipedia.
