Warhol at WT North

The Visual Art Department is pleased to have 9 silkscreen prints by iconic artist Andy Warhol on display at the Winchester Thurston North Hills Campus Center. These prints are actual Warhol prints called “x-edition” because they are not considered part of the signed editions by the artist. These prints have been provided to Winchester Thurston as part our ongoing City as Campus partnership with The Andy Warhol Museum.

All classes PK through the Fifth Grade spent the first few art classes viewing the Warhol prints and learning about the Pittsburgh artist. Warhol under-painted his prints and used color to change the meaning of the portraits. Students used watercolor paint to prepare papers to be printed with an image. Teachers from the Andy Warhol Museum came to Winchester and helped students print their pre-painted papers. They also had students practice a technique that Andy used to plan his prints. They added color under an acetate print of a cat (we learned that Andy had 60 cats named Sam).
